Pendopo Villa
Location · Balangan, Bali · Type · Private Villa · Style · Tropical Heritage · Year · 2025
A reassembly of tradition within a contemporary coastal setting.
Pendopo Villa transforms a dismantled pendopo into the central architectural language of a new villa in Balangan. Rather than treating it as a preserved object, the structure is reinterpreted and integrated as a functional roof element, allowing its craftsmanship to remain visible and relevant within a new spatial context.
The design adopts a light, coastal palette dominated by limestone and white-toned finishes, responding to the character of Balangan’s environment. The pendopo itself is refined through a whitewash treatment, aligning it with the overall material direction while maintaining its identity and detailing.
The composition balances openness and structure, where traditional form is embedded into a contemporary layout. This approach creates a layered architectural narrative, blending heritage with modern living.
The result is a villa that feels both rooted and adaptive, preserving cultural value while reshaping it into a new architectural expression suited to its coastal surroundings.
